Forty Days of Light: Day Two Meditation

As I sit and listen to the world around me, I hear the voices of all those who cry out in their oppression. I am reminded of some of the black spirituals that emerged from the old South, lamenting the slavery but believing that a better life will come eventually. Poor Wayfaring Stranger comes to mind as I continue to listen to the cries.
While there are many forms of slavery, many forms of bondage, the particular form my slavery has taken in this life is money and debt. Often we work our fingers to the bone and have nothing to show for it at the end of the day because of standards set by those who would rule. It is time to realize the standards we live by are arbitrary--set by those who would steal our personal power from us. It is time to break free from those rules and set news ones that will allow everyone to take back their own power and be able to use the gifts and talents they possess to benefit the world! It is time to focus on freedom!

Today's Prayer For Light:
Source of love and light and power,
Open our eyes, and hearts, and minds to all those traps we allow to imprison us. Help us ask new questions, that we may be open to new understandings and new possibilities that will enable us to break free of all those things that oppress us. Help us to be willing to act on this new information in ways that will not only free ourselves, but others imprisoned as well. We desire to use our gifts and talents in ways that benefit the One. Grant us the opportunity to live in freedom and the integrity to live in harmony with all.
